  • Great Book
    Let me first say that you need to read the whole book first. I know a lot of people that are excited to start and they are really dont read all the book. This is the only way that you are going to really the results that your body needs and want. I believe that is why a lot of people call the book a crock. Also please buy the companion book because it is great to take to the grocery store.

    A friend of mine that has cancer daughter bought her this book. I am so fortunate that I picked up the book off her coffee table and flip through the pages. The best thing that has ever happen to me and my husband. It meant for us cleaning out our food pantry. I am a O and husband is a B blood type. If you do this change you need to have your family on board. Especially if their is different blood types in your home.
    It is expensive at first, because you will have to give away or gradually stop using your avoid foods. We gave away a lot of stuff. My family started right away. I stopped coffee right away which if you know me I was a Starbucks addict. I still have a balance on my card which I will use for soymilk. I had already stop using splenda, boy after I stop their stock will go down(smile)
    We are going in our third week and now that we have all our food in the pantry.
    What I really like is I am never hungry. Before I started this blood type diet and I dont want to say diet because it is just a change of the way of eating. There is so much food to eat and I promise you will never be hungry. Before I started this process I felt 75% of myself. I am 50+ and now I can say I am 100% of energy in these short weeks. I have lost weight and I am going to start by exercising in a couple of days.

  • Contradictory information
    I have read both the hard cover for all blood types, and the soft cover for just my blood type. There were so many contradictions that I began to write them all down in every catagory of information. For example, in one book it said that I should avoid Pinto beans, and in another it said that they were highly beneficial. I attempted to contact Dr. d'Adamo to clear all this up, however, wasn't able to reach him, so I just sold the books....more info

    I was suprised at how much information this book provides. I now understand why my body reacted in the manner it did when I ate certain foods. I never realized how my blood type and diet could affect my overall health. After reading this book and making minor changes, I have seen a profound change in my energy level and my immune system has changed in a positive manner.   • If you are looking for a great diet and/or want to feel better than you ever have in your life, this book is a Must Have!!!

    Looking at my hands today, it's hard to believe that 6 years ago I had arthritis so bad that I couldn't even hold a cup of coffee without spilling it. Big knots on all my joints, one of my little fingers bent, redness and swelling in all my fingers. Now 6 years later, the knots are gone except on 3 fingers and those knots are much smaller, the little finger is straight again and the only time I have redness is when I have eaten Pizza the night before.

    Six years ago while doing research on arthritis in one of my health books it said that Dr. D'Adamo treated arthritis on people with type O blood by taking them off dairy products. I never have been able to drink milk but for years I had been eating a lot of cheese for the calcium, that is what we have been told to do..............right. That day I stopped all dairy products. First the redness started going away, then my fingers started feeling much more flexible, I was able to do more without pain, my little finger started getting straight, the knots on my joints started getting smaller. It didn't happen overnight but today unless I told you, you would never realize there had ever been anything wrong with my hands. People who don't know me often remark about how pretty my hands are for someone my age(70).

    The next year while shopping in a health food store, I learned Dr. D'Adamo had writtenEat Right 4 Your Type: The Individualized Diet Solution to Staying Healthy, Living Longer & Achieving Your Ideal Weight. I had such wonderful results with what little I had tried that I wanted to know more, so ordered my first book that day. At that time I was having Acid Reflux problems. Everything I ate gave me Acid Reflux, I thought it was just a symptom of age but didn't want to take the little purple pill my Dr. wanted to prescribe.

    Can you imagine how surprised I was to find out that a lot of the foods I had been eating all my life for good health(Cantalope,Strawberries, Tangerines ) were on my avoid list? For about the first year I stayed strictly on the diet. My Acid Reflux went away and I started feeling better than I had for years. Since I have always kept my weight down, by the second year a size 6 just wasn't enough weight for my 5' 8" frame so I started adding some things back to pick up some weight. Right now I use the diet about 70% and eat other things as I want them, this keeps me in the size 10 where I want to be.

    Two different girl friends...........two different results. Both women are in their mid 50's, both were always feeling bad and running to the Dr. all the time. Both on multiple prescriptions, both weighing between 250 and 300 pounds, both 5'7". I ordered the book for both of them. One friend wanted to take control of her health. She now wears a 6 or 8, is off all the meds except 2, works out and looks like she is in her mid 30's. I don't think the other friend ever looked at the book, if anything she is bigger now than she was then. Still feels lousy all the time, still goes to the Dr. for even more meds, very unhappy and not likely to change.

    This is about the 10th time I have ordered this book, I keep lending them and never getting them back. If you are serious about your health, I promise you,getting this book will be the best thing you will ever do for yourself. However if you are like my 1 friend, who only wants to talk about feeling and looking better. I would have to say..........only you can make a difference in your life and if you aren't going to use it, don't waste your money.

  • I'm a believer!
    Shortly after having my son in 1993, my health 'challenges' began to worsen. I've known since age 6 that I was allergic to milk when diagnosed by a doctor, but just had a feeling there was more. I had some allergy tests and all the doctor could tell me was the indoor/outdoor allergies I had and the one thing I already knew...dairy. Eventually body forced me to eliminate numerous foods that I had eaten for years. My body had enough.

    One day I had been watching a morning show and saw Peter D'Adomo promoting Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type. I thought it sounded logical and decided to give it a try. As soon as I began reading from the very beginning. I found out how logical it was. I'll let you see for yourself. ;)

    As I came upon my blood type and read all that I should/shouldn't have, the exercises, the personality of said blood type, etc; I was amazed. It hit me right on the heat. Everything I had recently eliminated from diet was what I shouldn't be eating. I began to implement the entire regimine for my type and never felt healthier my entire life and lost more than 60 pounds.

    Do I recommend this book? I certainly recommend at least reading the introduction and forward. {:O) Everyone owes to their wellbeing. ;)

    You really do not need the larger book if you just want to try the diet.
    The smaller ones for each individual blood type gives you all you need to know about what to eat and not to eat. However, the larger book does trace the diet and how it was accomplished. Found it interesting. Am going to give it a try!!...more info
  • I feel great
    If your goal is to read a book that will provide you with peer reviewed articles cited, scientific studies referred to, etc. before you try the diet then you should save your money because you will not find these things here. If all you do is read the book, and you want hard science, look elsewhere.

    BUT, if you are willing to experiment with your diet based on anecdotal evidence only because you want to feel and look better than you have in years, buy this book.

    In the past I have had trouble with weight and also a great deal of trouble with PMS. For years I have tried to find answers to the problem, but nothing ever did the trick. I would try to eat "healthy" foods, whole wheat homemade baked food, light meats like chicken, soy, lentil soups... things that I thought were good for me. What would happen is that I would feel so tired all the time and gain weight. Terrible! The times I gave up and ate red meat were the times I was my thinnest, but I never got rid of the PMS.

    Recently my doctor said I should remove yeast from my diet entirely which meant a lot of foods had to be eliminated. Once again I did a lot of cooking - but because my diet was so restrictive I really noticed how certain foods made me feel. Anything with wheat in it made me feel just awful. I mentioned this to my doctor who then asked my blood type... and so I bought this book.

    In two days I found my energy levels and mood to be enormously improved. In 4 days the rash I have always had on my upper arms went away and my arms are a smooth as a baby's behind! Overall, my skin is softer and just healthier looking. I sleep deeper and awaken feeling good. My mood is so stable, I am not irritated or blue half the time - I just feel GOOD. My concentration is better, I feel sharper. As to wieght loss, I feel like I am losing but it is only day 7.

    Speaking of weight loss, many people speak about this as a diet book and talk about how much they have lost - but that isn't what this book is about. This is a lifestyle change, and I can tell you that if I can feel this good and yet remain my current weight I would still count myself as lucky. This type O will never miss wheat - or the other things I should not eat - and why would I? I do not remember the last time I felt this good. I don't pick up a hammer and start hitting my knee in spite of the pain, and I won't eat a bagel for the same reason.

    Can't recommend this book enough - why not try it?...more info
  • Worst pseudoscience ever
    The author is a naturopath who claims he can heal people through diets designed to fit 4 blood types (A, B, 0, AB). If this were the thesis of this book, I would simply accept the author's word for it. Many non-conventional doctors use different media and methods to convey their healing abilities and, while the real nature of their systems baffles scientific analysis, fact is that they can heal. Unfortunately the author reached great success by stitching a delirious "scientific" theory around his thesis. I'll be expressing only few major critiques.

    1) The evidence he presents to support his thesis is 100% circumstantial. About a third of the book sounds like this : "John, who was suffering for this and that, came to my office. After putting him on the right diet, his symptoms reverted or regressed". Circumstantial evidence can be used as a starting point but it cannot be used to prove a theory, nonetheless the author sells his theories as if they were the Gospel
    2) D'Adamo states that group 0 is the blood group of hunters-gatherers. The group A are the farmers and the group B are the nomads. Well, this is not true. Go in the data bank and look for yourself. As an example, you'll notice that very many hunters-gatherers (Inuit and Ainu among others) have a lower group 0 incidence than peoples who have been farmers for millennia. The only major hunter-gatherer population fitting his scenario is the American Indian (both North and South). Amerindians were bottlenecked during their migration from Kamchatka to Alaska. Obviously, concepts like "genetic drift" are alien to the author.
    3) Nowhere in the scientific literature could one find any of his "studies" he claimed were being wrapped up at the time of publication
    4) The auhtor's knowledge of the biochemistry of lectins, albeit seemingly sound to most people, is primitive and incomplete. He is not just trying to keep it simple: he dismisses or ignores everything that may hinder his "truth".
    5) For D'Adamo's theory to be valid, food lectins must remain functionally intact through the stomach, the intestine and, in many cases, the cooking process. Moreover they should remain invisible to the immune system. This is frankly hard to believe. The author states that lectins do in fact survive digestion (no prove or literature is presented on this) and completely ignores the host immune reaction.
    Again, I am not questioning that D'Adamo may have the ability to heal people, however the "scientific" foundation on which this entire book is based is beyond weak: it is simply delirious.

    I was really excited to buy this book because I had heard so much about it from friends and needless to say, I'm so glad I brought it for myself. It's very interesting and so so true. Now I know why I get certain reactions when I eat food that aren't right for my blood type. This book is a must have in my opinion.

    Despite the popularity of this book, it's core premises are wrong. Blood types evolved as a result of exposure to different types of infectious disease pathogens in different parts of the world. The authors can cite all the supposed research they want - at the end of the day, you're wasting your money on a diet plan that is based on zilch....more info

  • Interesting, but......
    Two people I work with have taken the information in this book and put it to use. Both have lost weight and claim to feel much better. Which is why I decided to buy and read it.

    The premise seems plausible, but there is no data supporting the conclusions save the author's statement that he has done a particular test on a number of people and found it supports his premise. But nowhere does he explain how he even met the basic principles of scientific research. Book has been around a long time, so it must fill a need gap somewhere.

    My blood type is AB+, supposedly the "newest" blood type to appear which combines both the good and bad of types A & B. However, in one individual a good characteristic of A may be a bad characteristic in another. The author points out, correctly, that only 5% of the world's population is AB. Not knowing what the population size of his test subject's are/were, it still seems very unlikely he could have tested a significant number of AB's to draw any meaningful conclusions. Indeed, the chapter treating this blood type rambles.

    As a diabetic, I found his information on controlling this disease relative to blood type to be counter to some American Diabetes Association accepted practices. I am not about to jepordize my health care on such little evidence.

    Just glancing through the various "diets", there didn't seem to be much difference in them & I didn't think the information was valid enough to spend my time comparing them in detail.

    I didn't think that blood type would affect how my body metabolized the food I eat until I read this book. It makes perfect sense.   • The most common sense book that I have ever read about human health.
    You may not like what you read, and this is not an easy read, but the facts are the facts. We are all complex electro-chemical beings, with ever changing chemistry. But the most common thing we can share, is whatever is within our blood type. Any chemical reactions that may occur, between the same two or more substances, will typically react the same way, all else being equal. So it makes the most sense that different blood types will react differently with different foods and drinks etc, but within the same blood types, we can expect similar results of those foods and drinks etc. I have found, that if you follow this book's recommendations, that you will lead a healthier life. It's all about keeping your PH on the positive side, around 7.5, and following this book, helps anyone to do just that. ...more info

    I've seen references to "eating for your blood type" in several articles and books so I wanted to know what they were talking about. After reading, I am not completely convinced of the health benefits but am glad that now I know what the other articles were referring to.   • Good Concepts, Worth Your Time to Read
    In the Western world, it's pretty "all food works for all people", right? Some of us discover that we have allergies to certain foods and stop eating these. Other times, we have health issues that we don't have a clue as to their source.

    Peter D'Adamo has studied food vs. blood type. He breaks foods out and lists what foods work best for your particular blood type, but also which ones are likely to cause you problems.

    Blood type to me still seems too broad, it should be possible by studying genetics to come up with a better list with much finer resolution. Such a study as not been done, so we are left to work with what we have and that is blood type.

    So, this book is useful in that it gets you thinking in a direction that may help you identify the foods that are causing you grief. For instance, there are some foods that cause ALL blood types grief, those might be good to avoid altogether!

    I have been playing with the concepts and leaning in the direction that according to D'Adamo is correct for my blood type. I have to admit most of my little nagging physical issues have all but extinguished. Thus, I consider it worth a read!

  • Eat Right 4 Your Type
    Not thrilled with the book at all. After trying to follow my blood type O section for almost a year, I have come to realize I can't follow it.
    I have been sick for 2 1/2 years now and 6 Doctors later couldn't understand why I was trying to get well by following the suggestions in this book & every single one of them stated I had irritable bowl syndrome. Doctor #7 then tells me that I have Celiac Disease (after all his testings were done) & most of the stuff I was eating was not good for my problem any way and that's why I was not getting better, Go Figure. Now a days sticking to a Gluten Free regimen is not what I would call the best in the world but I can walk straight up now have a new outlook on life now and I can enjoy being alive again and pain free.     As a Naturopathic Physician, not only has Dr. D'Adamo's book been extremely helpful to me personally but to my patients that I have seen in my practice for over the past 12 years. Now I understand what the term means:
    " food as medicine"-- using the right foods to positively impact our bodies. I personally have experienced feeling my best since following my blood type diet. I am very familiar with using herbs,homeopathy, supplements and natural hormones to help heal the body and I must say that all these modalities have been helpful to me however what I have found is that when I follow this diet or have my patients follow this diet, we experience a level of wellness that most of us haven't had with any other modality.

Let Dr. D'Adamo take you the evolution of the different blood types and explain why it is important to feed ourselves the foods that our blood can accept as friends, not enemies, after digestion.     The premise for this book is not based on any science that is accepted as true. As a physician, I can tell you that there is no difference between blood groups as far as diet effectiveness goes. The difference between blood types is so minute, we are talking tiny 6 carbon sugar molecule differences between A,B,O. Take a step back and think about this logically and I think you will realize that is completely fictitious and not worth the paper it is printed on. If you must do a fad diet, pick anything other than this! If you actually want to lose weight, be healthier, and live longer you will have to start eating right regularly and exercising....more info
  • Taking care of your health
    This book attracted my attention as it focused on blood types. I've been following the recommendations for the past six years and it has helped address many of my issues without having to goto a doctor.

    I have also recommended this regimen to my husband and sons which they in turn have seen good results.

  • Type O diet since 1999 helped save my life
    As a Type O it helped me get over terrible digestive illness after being poisoned by NSAIDs. I had severe indigestion with about 140 food allergies. There were only a handful of common foods I could eat. I'd lost much weight and was very sick and weak. I tried the diet and in about one day noticed a tremendous increase in energy and well-being, and a more relaxed digestion. Spelt spaghetti was a big help; it went down much better than the common wheat version.

    As the diet strengthened my digestion, I began to lose the allergies, quickly to foods that are good for O's, slowly to the foods that are bad. Food allergies went to about zero after a few years. I can cheat often now without much trouble.

    The highly beneficial O foods like beef (when of high quality) really did give more energy or healing benefits than the merely acceptable foods. Bladderwrack cured an ulcer easily. In our family the chronic illnesses people have do match their blood types such as many O's with weak colons and thyroids.

    The personality descriptions made perfect sense too. I became proficient in guessing peoples' blood types, even an AB once. Quite a party trick that's not that hard. I did it sucessfully with a group including a biology PhD who was a skeptic. (She had classic A qualities.) Another time I ate with folks who were denying the blood type diet. It was funny to see all the A's eating chicken as they should, while the type O had brought in roast beef just for herself. Their bodies knew.

    I think if you try it for a couple days, you should tell whether it makes you feel great....more info

  • Finally! Relief from stomach distress and inflammation!
    I was recommended to this book from my naturopath. I have suffered almost three years with chronic stomach distress, inflammation, and all around random stomach aches. I always ate extremely healthy, unprocessed foods, worked out, etc but no doctor ever was able to heal my stomach. After hearing about the diet, I picked up every book D'adamo wrote and started my education.

    As an "A" type, my new diet was extremely different from the strict, limited high protein diet I lived on. Also, most of my daily staples (tomatoes, yams, cabbage, splenda, bananas, etc) were now on the avoid list. I revamped my eating, introduced new and different grains, veggies, fruits, beans, and occasional dairy into my diet and immediately felt better than ever before. In two weeks, I have no more stomach aches, not that constant nagging feeling. As a side effect, I also lost three pounds in my first two weeks (pretty big deal for someone my size because I only had maybe 5-8 to lose total).

    I'll update this review as more time passes, but I must say, in just two weeks I'm blown away by this book. I owe my naturopath and Dr. D'adamo a huge thanks!
